We are looking to recruit an experienced Senior Claims Executive, FD&D and P&I to join our Claims team in Athens.

The successful candidate will work in an international and stimulating environment, handling a varied portfolio of marine insurance claims and disputes and providing practical, commercial and legally sound advice to the Club’s members. The role requires a strong commitment to high-quality member service and an ability to manage complex matters proactively, reliably and efficiently.

Work Description

As a Senior Claims Executive you will belong to a team of professional claims handlers with expertise in all areas of P&I and marine insurance. Examples of work tasks:

· Independently handle a broad range of FD&D disputes, including disputes arising under time and voyage charterparties, bills of lading, and other maritime contracts.

· Draft legal advices, legal correspondence, settlement proposals and instructions to external lawyers and experts.

· Handle P&I claims across a range of areas, including cargo, personal injury, pollution, casualties and third-party liabilities.

· Provide timely and practical legal and insurance advice to members on claims, contractual disputes, cover and loss-prevention considerations.

· Review and assess reports and advice received from correspondents, surveyors, consultants and external lawyers.

· Conduct negotiations with opponents, insurers, lawyers and other third parties.

· Assist members in developing an appropriate legal and commercial strategy for complex or sensitive matters.

· Monitor claims developments, costs and financial exposure and ensure accurate internal reporting.

· Contribute to the development of the Club’s P&I and FD&D portfolio and its relationships with members, brokers and business partners.

· Prepare articles, case updates and other material for the Club’s publications.

· Participate in and organise seminars, training sessions and member events.

· Travel when required to attend investigations, casualties, legal proceedings and meetings with members, brokers or other business partners.

Place of work and period of employment

The place of work is our office in Delta Falirou, Athens. The employment starts as soon as possible and is intended to be of a permanent nature.

Qualifications

You are preferably a qualified solicitor in England & Wales and/or in Greece. You have 5-7 years’ experience from practising maritime law with a law firm, shipping company or a P&I Club. Experience from a shipping company is also relevant.

You also need:

· good knowledge of time and voyage charterparties and related disputes

· good negotiation and communication skills

· motivation to support the continued development of the Club’s claims service and presence in the Greek shipping market.

· Exercise sound judgement and remains calm and effective when dealing with urgent or high-value claims.

Communicate clearly and confidently with members, colleagues and external advisers

· cultural and social skills
