TRAINEE – Assistant Claims Executive
Are you a recent graduate with a degree in maritime law or a relevant maritime background who is eager to embark on a career in marine insurance? Join us as a Trainee in our dynamic organisation! We are currently seeking two trainees; one for Team Greece (located in Athens) and one for Team Sweden (located in Gothenburg).
At The Swedish Club, our operations are organised into six teams, each responsible for delivering top-tier services to members (clients) within a specific geographical region. Our teams manage a wide range of insurance-related activities, providing clients with support across insurance classes. Our claims handlers deal with everything from casualty response to member advisories on insurance coverage, as well as nautical and legal matters. They also oversee claims investigations, claim adjustments, and more.
Job Description
As a Trainee, you will work alongside experienced claims handlers, gaining hands-on experience and insights into essential areas of marine insurance, including:
- P&I Rules
- FD&D Rules
- Hull & Machinery Insurance terms and conditions
- Claims handling and investigation processes
- Coordination with correspondents, surveyors, lawyers, and other representatives
- Reviewing and analysing reports and legal advice
- Setting appropriate claim reserves
- Liability assessment
- Negotiation with claim counterparts
- Claims adjustment procedures

Location and Traineeship Period
This traineeship spans 18 months and begins in January 2025. Both trainees will start their journey with an initial 3-month period in the headquarters in Gothenburg. During the traineeship, the trainees are also expected to join our other offices for a few months.
Qualifications
This trainee position is ideal for recent graduates with a degree in Maritime Law or relevant maritime education. Familiarity with marine insurance or nautical knowledge is an advantage. Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is essential.
