CLAIMS EXECUTIVE, MARINE
We are looking for a person who is interested in working in the field of marine insurance and eager to develop and specialise within the area of Marine Claims and Adjusting.
Our operation is divided into six teams. Each team is responsible for members within a certain geographical area and has all the necessary resources to deliver high-quality services in relation to all classes of insurance offered by the Club. As a Marine Claims Executive, you will belong to the team in Athens, providing support to our membership in Greece, Italy, and the Middle East.
As an employee of The Swedish Club, you will experience an international and stimulating business environment. Ships trading worldwide continuously face new situations, and an ever-changing legal and regulatory environment puts increasing demands on insurance providers. As a result, we need to offer a service characterised by a high level of skills and knowledge and a professional approach.
Work description
Main duties:
• Claims handling (primarily of H&M claims, but also supporting the P&I claims team if needed)
• Advice to our members in connection with insurance-related matters, including in respect of liability and cover
• Review of technical and survey reports and legal advice
• Preparation and review of PA and GA adjustments
Second or ancillary responsibilities and tasks may also include:
• Yard selection, location of spare parts, repair specifications, negotiations and evaluation of repair costs
• Risk assessment of prospective members and vessels
• Review insurance policies and provide assistance to the underwriting team in respect of clauses which would affect the Club’s exposure
• Loss Prevention work, including participation in seminars, conferences and presentations
The job includes travelling and interacting with shipowners, ship managers, lawyers, Club correspondents, surveyors, average adjusters, shipyards, classification societies, maritime authorities, and other insurance companies.
Place of work
The place of work is our office in Athens, although travelling (both within Greece and abroad) will be required on an occasional basis.
Qualifications
Some marine technical knowledge would be desirable for this position. However, candidates with university or postgraduate education in shipping may be considered (particularly those who have studied relevant areas such as marine insurance/maritime law/naval architecture). Experience of dealing with insurance claims and familiarity with claim adjustments would be a strong advantage but is not essential. Equally, some knowledge of marine law would be useful as well as any qualification from the Association of Average Adjusters or certification from Cefor course.
The working language of the office is English, and it is essential that you are fluent in English; both written and spoken. Any additional relevant language skills will be a bonus.
You need to have the ability to understand technical documents and explain complicated matters both verbally and in writing. The ideal candidate would be confident working with numbers and be familiar working with MS Excel. A good sense of order and structure is important, as is a consistent approach. It is equally important to have an interest in gaining knowledge (if not already acquired) in marine claims adjusting as the role would require the production of claim adjustments (PA and GA).
The job also requires a positive, committed, and can-do approach. Much of the job is carried out on a team basis, and you need good social and cultural skills.
You will be expected to provide support and assistance to all members of Team Greece, where necessary. You will work under the Head of Claims Marine for the Athens office.
Salary
A competitive package will be offered to the successful candidate.
